For many couples considering marriage, the high divorce rate can be a scary thing to face. No one ever imagines they will get divorced when they get married, and a new more unconventional marriage alternative builds on that idea. A “wedlease” (as opposed to wedlock) is the idea of committing to marriage for a predetermined number of years, similar to a property lease. The marital lease could be renewed as many times as the couple wants or ended simply without a complicated divorce procedure. It may seem unorthodox, but the logic is certainly understandable and practical to boot! Maybe the wedlease will catch on someday.
