We all know that parenting can be a challenge even under the most normal of circumstances. Add to the mix a recent divorce, and things can quickly become complicated and confusing. This may lead to a situation in which the children are unconsciously used as leverage by the parents to either get back at someone or attempt to wield power. This is known as reactive parenting and is a result of a defensive emotional posture. Unfortunately, this parenting style can have negative emotional consequences for the children. Therefore, it is importance to become a proactive parent and make decisions based upon the needs of the family.
