Clinical psychologist Seth Meyers believes make-up sex is often used to cover up a couple’s intimacy issues. After all, when do we have make-up sex? The motivation for sexual intimacy after an argument is more about trying to feel good again after extreme negative emotions without necessarily having resolved anything. He compares the high with that of a cocaine addict, and suggests holding off on sex until angry emotions have cooled. Other researchers disagree, including Jennifer Berman, who believes it can be healthy and provide a boost to a couple’s sex life, unless  it’s the only time couples are having sex.
