The ability to multi-task and communicate instantly is changing the way we view and interact with time, according to author Thor Miller. Punctuality no longer holds the same value and this change affects our work, family and social relationships. Miller contrasts two views of time: monochronic (organized, efficient, expected) and polychronic (context over process, sometimes seen as “flakiness”). He suggests that our society is leaning more toward polychronic behaviors, led by social media and the ever-present smart phone, which can interrupt us at any time. Miller believes social media and modern technology may greatly impact how we engage with time.
