A time-out from email may prolong your life, according to a study by the University of California at Irvine and the U.S. Army. Constantly checking email keeps your heart rate elevated, which can cause long-term health problems. Regular access to email enhances the ability to multitask, however, study subjects without email access said they are able to focus better and appreciate time spent talking with co-workers. The study’s advice to employers: consider “…checking email only at certain times of day or designating one day a week as an ‘email vacation,’” in order to improve employee morale and health.
