Psychiatrist Paul Dobransky uses the story of Ariadne’s Thread from Greek mythology to frame his theory about what men really need from women, especially with respect to their careers. Just as Ariadne left a thread for Theseus to find his way back out of the maze, Dobransky believes women can provide connection and support to the men in their lives. He writes, “…men most certainly still need women…if he doesn’t have a woman to share [his journey] with then even his greatest acts of valor don’t really feel all that important somehow.” Ariadne’s spirit of admiration and approval is vital to the relationship.
